We lived in Touvent and then in "Quontown"
I am also trying to locate a French woman from Touvent who was a housekeeper for
several families in Touvent during this time. I only
have her first name...Paulette....
My father, Staff Sgt. Kenneth Odell Hall
worked in the motor pool, I also believe he was a Drill Sergeant. He was a
championship golfer and played golf with many officers, as I recall. Daddy
passed away 18 years ago.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who may know any of these folks. |

PACHECO - CARRERAS, Antonio

@ Chas: Jan. 1953 to Nov. 1953

I was stationed at Chad for
almost a year, in muddy Tent City, our chow hall was a hangar, we had a hard time
staying clean, we made sidewalks out of wooden pallets in order to walk from
tent to tent without getting our boots dirty, winter was so cold, we had to
sleep with our fatigues on, in the morning we washed and shaved right outside
our tents with water from our canteens, the showers were too far to walk to. In
the year 2000 I visited Châteauroux, did not visit La Martinerie, rather visited
the flight line at Déols which was part of the base, they were celebrating the
50th anniversary of the base, there were planes from different countries
including the USA, the pilots were kind of young so I was telling them that I
had been stationed there back in 1953, the base and surroundings has changed
quite a bit , new highways, the town has also new buildings mixed with the old
ones, I went to the train station where back then on weekends our GI's used to
meet. It brought back so many memories, we had a rough time but yet I remember
the good times we spent in the summer, I had many good buddies there and often
think about them, great bunch of guys, God bless them wherever they may be.
1-27-07 I would like to get e-mail from
former members of my old squadron, 75th Air Transport Sqdn.
Searching: Any members of my old squadron at

WADE, Doyle M/Sgt

NCOIC Rail Transportation Division
@ Chas Jan 1957-Nov 1960
10-29-07 I
was a TSgt at the time [later a M/Sgt]. I was assigned to Cargo Movements, Bldg 351.
Shortly after arriving I was appointed NCOIC of Cargo Mvts Division. There
were 40 military personnel and 100 French Nat'l assigned. We moved an
amazing amount of cargo throughout Europe and the Middle East. Sometimes as
many as 100 rail cars a day, enumberable trucks, not to mention air cargo.
It was a great time for me. Maj John Griffin was my boss, (See entry
above). Col Smith (don't
remember a first name) was the Sqd CO. I left Chad in Nov 1960. Would love to
hear from any of the old hands from that period.
